Download ValTerra for Autodesk 3ds Max
One installer, every feature unlocked. No card, no ValTerra account, no watermark on anything you render.
What you get
A single .mzp installer
The current release is v0.6.8. It installs the full plugin — Photo Studio, Camera match, schematic city and terrain.
Every feature enabled for 30 days
The trial is not a feature-limited edition. Renders come out clean: no watermark, no stamp, no resolution cap. The count starts the first time you open the panel, not the day you download — and it does not restart if your clock moves backwards.
A free tier when the 30 days are up
Nothing is asked of you and nothing is taken away: the plugin quietly continues as ValTerra Lite, free forever. The whole workflow stays, at half quality — Medium (8 m) geometry, Half-resolution textures, 1080p captures, and up to 0.25 km² per photorealistic import. Terrain stays at full quality, schematic city too within 4 km² per OpenStreetMap request in Lite (no fixed area cap in the trial or a paid seat), and nothing is ever watermarked. The ValTerra Sun is the one paid feature: Lite builds the Daylight system of Autodesk 3ds Max instead.
The user guide, as a PDF
Three pages, functions only: every control of the panel, where it sits and what it does, and what each tier includes. Open the guide.
What you need
Autodesk 3ds Max 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027
On Windows. Any renderer: the camera is a native Physical Camera, and the sun is a CoronaSun when Corona is active and a standard directional light otherwise; the sky, moon, clouds and stars of the ValTerra Sun are Corona's. A scene that holds a ValTerra Sun needs ValTerra installed — any tier — to open as built.
Credentials for the globe and photorealistic features
One credential runs everything: a free Cesium ion token — two clicks to sign up — or your own Google Maps Platform key. Both are linked from inside the plugin, and you paste one into a single field. Schematic city and terrain then cost nothing to import: they come from open data and spend none of that quota.
Photorealistic 3D Tiles features run on credentials you supply — your own Google Maps Platform key or a Cesium ion token — under your own agreement with that provider, and that provider bills you directly.
How to install
Download the file.
The button above downloads the .mzp file from getvalterra.com.
Run it from Autodesk 3ds Max.
Drag the .mzp file into a viewport, or use MAXScript → Run Script.
Open ValTerra.
It appears in your toolbar. Paste a map credential into the panel once — the plugin links you straight to a free one — and the globe comes up.
After the trial
Nothing is taken away from work you already made. Scenes you built at full quality keep opening and rendering exactly as they are. What changes is new work: photorealistic imports come in at Medium (8 m) with Half-resolution textures, captures at 1080p, and a new sun is the Daylight system of Autodesk 3ds Max rather than the ValTerra Sun. Terrain stays at full quality; schematic city too, within 4 km² per OpenStreetMap request in Lite (no fixed area cap in the trial or a paid seat). A perpetual license starts at $169 per seat at Founders pricing.
